Whether it’s because we’ve had a late night or a sign of age, we all get dark circles or bags1 beneath our eyes at some point.
Along with age also come the crows feet from years of facial expressions and the loss of elasticity in our skin.
Whilst there is no miracle cure, Plexaderm promises to eliminate under eye bags and wrinkles from view in just 10 minutes!
Ever the sceptic when I hear promises of this nature I decided to look into it further.
What Is Plexaderm?
Plexaderm is a small range four of cosmetic products, marketed under that name, by True Earth Health Products.
The CEO is one Jonathan Greenhut, who is also CEO of Nutricap Labs and Health Solutions Marketing. Apart from over 16 years experience in the Nutraceuticals and Cosmetics Industry, there is little to be found about his credentials.
A search on the Better Business Bureau reveals that they registered with them on 13th April 2017, and have had two registered complaints. Both have been resolved.
The main product in the Plexaderm range is their Rapid Reduction Cream Plus, which markets as being able to smooth fine lines and firm skin, redefine facial contours, improve skin density, refine skin texture and minimize visible pore size.
Plexaderm do market this as a temporary solution for under eye bags and wrinkles.
What Products Do The Company Offer?
The company offers 4 products:
- Rapid Reduction Cream Plus
- 100% Hyaluronic Moisturiser
- Plexaderm Collagen Peptide Firming Serum
- Plexaderm HA Antioxidant Moisturizer
Plexaderm Ingredients
Intrigued by the claims of this miracle cream, I looked at what it actually contains. Let’s take a look at some of these ingredients and what they do.
- Magnesium Aluminium Silicate is refined from purified clay and is the main component of talc. It is used in cosmetics as a thickening or opacity agent. It has been tested and shown to be only a mild irritant.
- Sodium Silicate is used in cosmetics to control the PH of the product. It is an alkaline and can cause irritation or burning. It is also used in adhesive products2 .
- Cellulose Gum is used as a thickening agent in food
- Acetyl Hexapeptide – 8 is used as a muscle relaxer in cosmetics to reduce the appearance of wrinkles3 .
- Yellow % and Red 40 are both coloring agents.
- Phenoxyethanol is used as a preservative in cosmetics. And can cause allergies.
- Ethylhexylglycerin is a deodorising agent and may cause irritation4 .
The Rapid Reduction Cream Plus is the only one that is available to order online at their website. If you want any prices or to place an order for any of the other items you need to call their sales team.
How Does Plexaderm Work?
The company claims that it uses silicate minerals from shale clay to form a temporary tightening layer on your skin. This invisible layer works to visibly tighten and lift crow’s feet and wrinkles surrounding your eyes in minutes.
It further claims that it smooths skin surrounding under-eye bags making them shrink from view, again, in minutes. This is a premium product like the Instantly Ageless cream.
They do not claim this to be a permanent fix, and openly admit that it is temporary.
As we get older we produce less collagen and elastin, these are the building blocks of our skin. This can be exacerbated by overexposure to sun, smoking and other lifestyle choices. Loss of structure causes the skin to form wrinkles and, on some people, bags under the eyes.
In general, hyaluronic acid is one of the main ingredients in skincare products. It has been shown to help with wrinkles as it helps our skin retain moisture. This is noticeably absent in the Rapid Reduction Cream.
So how does this cream actually work? Let’s think David Copperfield and illusions! By temporarily filling your wrinkles, and putting a sheen on your skin that bounces light off, it the illusion is created. Filled wrinkles and tighter skin!
It appears that the sodium silicate, when it dries, has the effect of “lifting” the skin and providing a smoother surface. This may be further enhanced by the magnesium aluminium silicate, which is essentially a plumping and filling agent. These also appear to have the effect of putting a sheen on the area where the product is applied.
Whilst the company carried out what it refers to as a “clinical study”, there is no evidence of any scientific studies or clinical trials to backup the claims this company makes.
Plexaderm Side Effects
Other than mild irritation reported by some people, there don’t seem to be any side effects to using this product.
How Long Does Effects of Plexaderm Last?
Plexaderm results can last up to 8 hours after first taking. You can just wash your face if you want to remove the Plexaderm.
Plexaderm Reviews & Complaints
As this product is only sold through True Earth Health Products it is difficult to find any independent reviews.
The marketing relies highly on before and after pictures, showing apparently remarkable results.
This is via their website and a range of TV ads. In fact, at the time of writing this, their ads have aired 1261 times in the last 30 days. I think that’s a pretty full on marketing push.
Their customers claim dramatic results.
Susan S writes:
When I use plexaderm, it truly makes me look years younger. Plexaderm is part of my daily face and makeup routine, I love it!! Thank you plexaderm!!
When I started digging deeper the cracks begin to appear. There are numerous issues around how the product is dispensed. It comes in a syringe style container. Some people have found that this clogs.
Janet writes:
It doesn’t work! Plus bad syringe constantly clogging, drying up and mine stopped dispensing all within a month. Yet when I finally got a hold of them which was a few days past 30 return period (I bought in Dec, 2017 and they’re the only company I know who doesn’t even offer extended holiday return, that should tell you something) they refused to let me return for a refund.
I’d never buy another thing from this company. They won’t stand behind their product even if it stops working so you’re stuck with a syringe that won’t dispense.
Also people have found with this method of dispensation you cannot use all the cream, and therefore describe it as wasteful.
Then come the reviews from people that posted around the issues of using type of moisturizer or make up with this product. It appears that the product works by drying on clean skin, add makeup or moisturizer into the mix and it does not work.
Paula Van Der Zwaan reports:
Plexaderm does not work for women who use day creams and makeup! You need to apply this on a clean and dry skin (no creams), and after applying, you can’t put anything on your face as that takes the effect away. This is great for men who don’t use any day creams.
It doesn’t feel good when it’s on your skin, and you feel it pulling your skin, but a white residue stays on your skin. Don’t waste your money on this!
The issue raised by Paula of a white film being left on the skin has also been brought up by other people, and apparently it looks even worse in photographs. So no selfies if you are using this!
Then come the customer comments that the product does not work, or if it does then, as stated by the company, the results are temporary.
Joshua Winiarz writes:
It works when it’s applied as on TV, and as time is counting down. But as soon as you rinse the stuff off after it has dried and has done its thing, the bags and the wrinkles come back.
There were earlier issues raised around automatic payments being taken via their preferred customer scheme, and also only refunding unopened items.
The company seem to have addressed these issues and now only offer a “one time purchase” and accept returns of opened items within 30 days of receipt.
