If you are finding it hard to lose weight diet pills may seem like a viable option.
Their manufactures make many promises. They may make it sound easy to lose the extra pounds. They may tell you that don’t need to change your diet. They may also tell you that don’t need to change your exercise routine.
Lipozene is one such product. It claims you can still eat the foods you love and achieve fantastic weight loss results1.
Does this sound too good to be true? Let’s take a closer look
What Is Lipozene?
Lipozene is a dietary supplement in capsule form.
The company behind it is Obesity Research LLC. This is Californian based company founded in 2003. Their history is not stellar in respect of weight loss products.
In 2005 they were ordered to pay $1.5 million in consumer redress as a result of false advertising claims. The Federal Trade Commission brought proceedings against the company. This was due to misleading weight-loss claims that violated federal laws.
It has also more recently been involved two class action lawsuits. These were for false advertising and false claims about weight loss.
The company has a B rating with the Better Business Bureau. It has 26 logged complaints.
Lipozene Ingredients
The active ingredient in Lipozene is Amorphophallus Konjac. This is a water soluble fiber derived from the Konjac Plant. It is also called Elephant Yam or Glucomannan2 .
This fiber can absorb up to 50 times its weight in water. There have been many studies of the effectiveness of this fiber to aid weight loss.
One study carried out in 1984 showed weight loss as a result of taking 1g of Glucomannan with water 30 minutes before meals. This was a small study group of 20 obese people.
Since then there have been numerous other studies that have reached inconclusive results. They suggest that glucomannan intake does not generate statistically significant weight loss.
One study in the Journal of Obesity suggests that more research is required.
This fiber has been shown to aid weight loss when combined with a balanced diet of 1200 calories per day.
How Does Lipozene Work?
The company claims that Lipozene makes you feel full so you eat less. This means that you can lose weight without changing what you eat.
The fiber in this product has the ability to absorb water.
The recommended method of taking this product is with at least 8 oz of water 30 minutes before meals.
The recommended dosage is 2 capsules three times a day.
Each dose contains 1.5 g of Gluconnamam, this 4.5 g per day.
The recommended dosage of this fiber to achieve weight loss in obese or overweight adults is 2- 4 g per day.
It may be that the fiber will swell up and make you feel fuller. Some studies have shown that this may be the case. Increasing your intake of dietary fiber may help you lose weight.
Other studies have shown that most fibers do not reduce appetite or energy intake.
There has been no independent study on Lipozene per se. The company relies on studies on Gluconnamam, the active ingredient, for its research.
Lipozene Side Effects
There are no side effects reported by the manufacturers. They state:
The active ingredient is found in nature, not in a chemist’s lab- so you can feel good about what you are putting into your body.
Glucomannan may have some side effects. Taking it with water is important. If a capsule is not swallowed properly it may expand and block your breathing passages. This may cause you to choke.
It may also cause bloating, excess gas and abdominal discomfort.
Is There Anything Else You Should Know?
There are before and after pictures and testimonials on the Lipozene website endorsing the product.
The “small print” indicates that the endorsers used Lipozene in conjunction with diet and exercise.
They were also paid for their endorsement.
The company further stipulates that these pictures do not represent typical results.
They feature other photographs of slim women on the website. These are however models.

Some people are happy with the product. Mary Heffner appreciates that diet and exercise contribute to weight loss. She does find this product helps
She writes in her Lipozene review:
No matter what fancy claims sellers put on the internet no–repeat no–diet product works unless you do a certain amount of dieting and exercise. However, having been a user of Lipozene for several years, it does work. When you diet and exercise while taking it, it works. You lose weight. When you are too lazy, it helps you keep from gaining back what you lost. It’s great stuff.
Some people find that it does suppress their appetite and they eat less.
Alicia Thompson writes:
Amazing. What I like about it is that it really suppressed my appetite. I’ve always had issues with overeating and lipozene nipped it in the butt. It doesn’t give you a funny diet pill kinda feeling. I don’t feel any different when taking lipozene except sometimes I would forget to eat and I would only notice because I would get so dizzy lol .. maybe that’s a personal problem. Anyways, lipozene feels natural and it works.
Then there are those people that are less than impressed with the product.
Joyce Ann Laird writes:
Tried 3 bottles, 3 months just to give the product a fair trial. Followed the instructions to a “T”. Did not work at all. Actually, I gained 4 lbs. taking it instead of losing any weight. I would definitely not recommend it. Waste of money.
Michael S Blaylock is among many who have commented on gaining weight while taking this product.
He writes:
While following the directions, I did not lose a single pound or have a smaller waist line. In fact, I gained weight and added to my waistline.
There are people that complain of side effects like gas, bloating and upset stomachs.
